The Twenty Fifth One 1/29/24

If you read these please start from the very first day.

Ever since I was about nine years old I always knew that I wanted to open/own/run a  business. I just never knew what type. But I wasn't that guy who was constantly opening up lemonade stands to earn a few extra bucks. I always figured it would work itself out and when the time was right I would know and that's kind of what happened. They say “do what you love and youll never work a day in your life”, well I never really found what I love. I mean I love to watch television but don't really know what kind of business would have supported that type of passion.  I did host a television show for seven years, but that's another story for another day. People always ask why I started a moving company. It's only because when I was younger someone (who is now a competitor) gave me a job in management at his moving company and I learned the business from inside/out. I always wonder if I would have walked into a plumbing store that fateful day and they would have given me a job if I would have opened a plumbing business. So this guy gave me a job and gave me two days off a week to go to college, I eventually graduated, worked at the television station for seven years and at the tail end of working there opened up Swift Moves. There's a lot of holes in that short resume but they can be filled in later, ask me in the comments if you really want to know. So now it's eight years later, I have a waterfront office with 9000 square feet of storage space that I pay waaaay too much rent for (yes I'm sitting at my desk looking at Tampa Bay), have 7-8 trucks depending on the day and about 20-25 employees. Things could be worse. It's definitely a challenge keeping it running. I'm pretty sure any business owner will tell you the same thing. The two hardest things about this business is 1.) there's always a slow season that varies widely from year to year and 2.) the human/employee aspect.  Before I started this business I never really realized how much people are depending on their employer to make their lives happen. You would think it would be obvious but it kind of hit me pretty hard once I got about six employees and we had a slow week. These people are depending on me to pay rent and for food and everything else. I definitely approach my job as an owner a different way than I thought I would or I used to.

Moving Tip-If you, ever have any questions, comments, worries, changes, concerns-don't hesitate to call the company you hired. If they dont answer your question with a smile then you should start looking for another company. We probably talk to every client 2-3 times before the move because we tell them to call us with anything they need and we dont mind one bit, that's our job.

The Artwork-I wish I would have drawn this one very last so I could be like- “Thats all Folks”. But I'm happy with the way ole’ Porky the Pig came out. He looks happy.

Day 26 and not a word from my family as to why I've abruptly stopped drawing after doing it everyday for a year. Byu the way I have not told them about this blog, they have no idea. At this point I've only told one person. I wanted to get some more artwork put up so people can see my progress and see zim sticking with it before they get too invested. I'm going to start spreading the word pretty soon and hopefully people will visit the site once a day to see the new artwork. It's almost viral, I think upwards of two people have noticed my work. One was me and the other was someone special to me who I asked to look at it.
